Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia Tigran Mkrtchyan has met with Ms. Dora Bakoyannis, the Chairwoman of the Greek Parliament’s Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Ambassador Mkrtchyan discussed the Armenia-Greece and Armenia-European Union relations, presenting the latest developments in these areas.

He also provided an update on recent developments in the South Caucasus region, particularly the Armenia-Azerbaijan and Armenia-Turkey negotiation processes. It was emphasized that the foundation of a peace treaty should be based on mutual recognition of territorial integrity, in line with the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. The Ambassador raised concerns about the ongoing fake trials against Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Baku.

Ms. Bakoyannis welcomed Armenia’s intention to normalize relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey, specifically noting that the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border would contribute to a more constructive atmosphere in the region. She pointed out that international law is currently facing a crisis, but Greece’s position is clear that conflict resolution must adhere to international legal norms.

Both sides discussed the importance of high-level exchanges between Armenia and Greece, highlighting the active cooperation between their two parliaments. To further this cooperation, Ambassador Mkrtchyan invited Ms. Bakoyannis to visit Armenia, an invitation that was positively received by the Greek official.
