Meeting of Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan with Representatives of the University of Piraeus

07 March, 2025

On March 7, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, welcomed at the Embassy the Head of the Department of Tourism Development at the University of Piraeus and former Rector of the same university, Angelos Kotios, Professor Sotirios Varelas, and the University’s Head of International Relations, Dr. Christina Kondogolidou.

During the meeting, the level of existing cooperation between the University of Piraeus and several higher education institutions in Armenia was discussed, along with prospects for expanding the scope of that cooperation.
Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized that Armenia considers tourism one of the key sectors for national development, and in this context, tourism education holds a unique role. Therefore, cooperation with the University of Piraeus, a leading institution in this field, can offer significant potential.

Professor Kotios welcomed the initiative of the meeting and added that cooperation could be developed not only bilaterally—by involving one of the tourism education institutions operating in Armenia, such as the Armenian-Greek State College of Tourism, Service and Food Industry in Yerevan, and other universities—but also in a trilateral format, including one of the institutions from Cyprus.

The parties agreed to move forward with the mentioned cooperation in the near future.

Also participating in the meeting were representatives of the Armenian-Greek State College of Tourism, Service and Food Industry in Yerevan who are currently in Greece—Tereza Shahnazaryan and Karen Yenokyan.
