During his working visit to the city of Kalamata in southern Greece, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, met with the Mayor of Kalamata, Athanasios Vasilopoulos.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan proposed the development of decentralized cooperation with Armenia, not only through inter-city or inter-regional contacts but also by implementing economically attractive joint programs. As examples, two specific directions were discussed: promoting tourism from southern Greece to Armenia and vice versa, and exploring the possibilities for exporting Kalamata’s advanced agricultural products and establishing mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

In this context, Ambassador Mkrtchyan invited Mayor Vasilopoulos to visit Armenia at a convenient time, accompanied by a Kalamata business delegation, to explore tangible cooperation opportunities on the ground.

The Mayor of Kalamata thanked the Armenian Ambassador for the visit and responded that he is interested in organizing such a visit. He also emphasized his close ties with the Armenian community in Greece, including members of the Armenian community residing in Kalamata.
