Ambassador Mkrtchyan Meets with President of the Hellenic Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis

13 June, 2025

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, met with the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan congratulated Nikitas Kaklamanis on his election as President of Greece’s legislative body and wished him success in his new position. The Ambassador expressed hope that during Kaklamanis’s term, Armenian-Greek parliamentary interactions would intensify—both at the level of friendship groups and through regular communication between various standing committees. He also emphasized the importance of conducting reciprocal high-level visits.

Speaker Kaklamanis highlighted the excellent level of relations between Greece and Armenia and pledged to do his utmost to further activate them on a parliamentary level. In this context, he mentioned that an official invitation would soon be extended to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to visit Greece.

The two sides also discussed regional developments. Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented Armenia’s efforts and initiatives to establish peace in the South Caucasus, including the country’s readiness to sign a Peace Treaty and its ongoing efforts to normalize relations with Turkey. The Ambassador also addressed Armenia’s relations with the European Union, underlining the prospects of deepening cooperation with Greece within that framework and giving the relationship a strategic dimension.

Nikitas Kaklamanis emphasized that Greece and Armenia hold similar positions on international platforms. He also stressed that Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable, and that inter-state issues must be resolved exclusively through diplomatic means.
