Ambassador of Armenia Highlights Deepening Armenia–EU Relations at Youth Event in Athens

30 March, 2026

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, delivered welcome remarks at an event organized by the Piraeus–Athens local branch of the Young European Federalists of Greece (JEF Greece), held at the Europa Experience Athens venue operating under the auspices of the European Parliament.

In his speech, Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized the importance of such platforms as key avenues for dialogue, exchange of experience, and consolidation around European values. He presented the unprecedented growth and achievements recorded in Armenia–EU relations in recent years. He noted that exactly one year ago, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted the draft law “On the Launch of the Process of Accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union,” reaffirming Armenia’s clear political will toward a European path and its strategic choice for democratic development.

The Ambassador also addressed the ongoing deepening of Armenia–European Union cooperation, highlighting progress in institutional reforms, strengthening the rule of law, as well as economic and political integration. He placed special emphasis on the role of youth as carriers and drivers of European values, stressing the importance of their engagement in political and public processes.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan noted that Armenia’s European path is aimed not only at aligning institutional approaches but also at deepening shared values based on democracy, human rights, and peace. He also underlined that Armenia will continue to actively develop its partnership with the European Union and its member states for the benefit of regional stability and enhanced cooperation.

In this context, the Ambassador also highlighted the role of Greece and the further development of Armenia–Greece bilateral relations as a vital link in Armenia–EU strategic relations.

Welcome remarks were also delivered by Member of the Hellenic Parliament and representative of the ruling “New Democracy” party Michalis Livanos, former Secretary General of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Chryssoulakis, Head of the Prime Minister’s Office for Digital Communication Giorgos Tassis, Deputy Regional Governor of Attica Eleftheria Moraitaki, as well as Filippos Kamaris, representative of the European Parliament Office in Greece.

The keynote speakers of the event were:

Sifis Kassesian, writer and publicist, Secretary of the Armenian–Greek Research Center, who addressed political and institutional reforms in Armenia on the path toward closer ties with the EU,
George Meneshian, international affairs specialist, who presented prospects for economic integration and trade opportunities between Armenia and the European Union,
Hovsep Khurshudyan, analyst and President of the “Free Citizen” NGO, who spoke about geopolitical and security challenges affecting Armenia’s European integration.

The event brought together diplomats accredited in Greece from several EU member states, representatives of civil society, researchers, and students, fostering an active and multifaceted discussion environment.
