05 September, 2025

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, visited the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, where he met with Katerina Athanassaki, Head of Exhibitions and Collections Management of the museum.

During their meeting, Ambassador Mkrtchyan discussed prospects for collaboration with Armenian museums. He presented the outcomes of the official visit to Athens by RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Zhanna Andreasyan, held in July, as well as the documents signed with the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, which place significant emphasis on museum cooperation and the organization of joint exhibitions.

In this context, the importance of establishing cooperation with the Heraklion Archaeological Museum was highlighted, particularly regarding the potential for organizing exhibitions of mutual interest focused on Cretan-Mycenaean and Urartian themes.

Katerina Athanassaki presented the key features of the Heraklion Museum, noting that it continues to achieve impressive visitor numbers. She also emphasized the museum's regular participation in international exhibitions organized by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. Both sides stressed the importance of organizing similar exhibitions in Armenia and Greece.

Later, accompanied by Georgia Flouda, Head of the Collections Department, Ambassador Mkrtchyan toured the museum and became acquainted with its exceptionally impressive collections.
