28 September, 2025

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Hellenic Republic, Tigran Mkrtchyan, participated in a memorial event titled "Dourgouti Remembers the Blockade", held under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens and jointly organized by the Union of Armenians of Greece and the “Pegasos” Sports and Cultural Organization.

The event was dedicated to the victims of Nazi atrocities during World War II in the Dourgouti district of Athens, among whom were many Armenians. Ambassador Mkrtchyan laid a wreath at the memorial and delivered a greeting speech, emphasizing the historical friendship between the Armenian and Greek peoples, their common struggle, and the importance of preserving historical memory.

The event was attended by Bishop Khoren Arakelyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Greece, representatives of the Municipality of Athens, deputy governors of the Attica Region, members of the Hellenic Parliament, and representatives of various political parties.

The cultural program featured performances by the “Avetis” Armenian Folk Dance Ensemble and Mkrtich Poghosyan’s Folk Music Group. Their performances highlighted the spirit of unity between Armenians and Greeks and symbolized the significance of the resistance struggle.
