Ambassador Mkrtchyan Meets with Greece’s Deputy Minister of Education

On September 16, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan received Professor Nikolaos Papaioannou, Greece’s Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Greece.

The meeting focused on the progress of the growing cooperation between Armenia and Greece in education in recent years, including the 2025–2029 Programme of Cooperation in Education and Science, signed in the summer of 2025 by the ministers responsible for education of Armenia and Greece.

The two sides also discussed the activities and achievements of the Armenian Studies and Hellenic Studies centres operating at universities in the two countries, respectively.

Deputy Minister Papaioannou noted that, pursuant to a decision by the Greek government in March 2026, the Higher School of Performing Arts had been established. The institution will incorporate programmes in film and theatre, music, and dance. It is currently in the organizational development phase and is expected to welcome its first students in September 2027.

The two sides agreed to establish cooperation between the new institution and relevant Armenian universities once the school’s organizational structure has been finalized.
