“Stateless Diplomat” Film Screening Marks 33rd Anniversary of Armenia’s UN Membership and International Women’s Day

08 March, 2025

On March 7, at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Greece and in co-organization with the Michalis Kakoyannis Foundation in Athens, an event was held dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Republic of Armenia's accession to the UN, International Women’s Day, and Armenian Diplomat's Day.

The event featured a screening of the award-winning documentary "Stateless Diplomat" by Mimi Malayan, dedicated to Diana Apgar, with Greek subtitles.

Speeches were delivered by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, and Hrachya Margaryan, co-founder of the "Diana Apgar" Foundation.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan began by reflecting on the history of Armenia's accession to the UN in 1992, noting that in this context, the Government of Armenia designated March 2 as Armenian Diplomat's Day in 2012.

The Ambassador emphasized that many of the themes addressed in the documentary about Diana Abgar’s work remain relevant today. He also presented some details about her life and diplomatic career.
"In July 1920, when Diana Apgar was appointed as the diplomatic representative and Consul General of the First Republic of Armenia in the Far East, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs Hamazasp Ohanjanyan included the following message: ‘to protect the interests of the newly formed Homeland and alleviate the conditions of our compatriots.’ That message remains relevant to this day," noted Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan.

He concluded his remarks by congratulating everyone on International Women’s Day (March 8), highlighting the significant role of women, including those working at the Embassy of Armenia in Greece.

Hrachya Margaryan, co-founder of the Diana Abgar Foundation, who had traveled from Armenia for the event, presented the Foundation’s activities and its upcoming initiatives aimed at promoting Diana Apgar’s legacy.

At the end of the event, the Embassy of Armenia presented roses to the women in attendance.
