On October 16, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Hellenic Republic Tigran Mkrtchyan met with Greece’s Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mr. Nikolaos Papaioannou.

The meeting focused on the implementation process of the 2025–2028 Cooperation Program in the Fields of Education and Science, signed on July 22 in Athens between the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Zhanna Andreasyan, and the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of Greece, Ms. Sofia Zacharaki.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented the upcoming events dedicated to the Armenian Government’s “Academic City” initiative, highlighting the importance of Greece’s participation in these activities.

The next steps of cooperation in the field of higher education—specifically emphasized in the above-mentioned agreement—were also discussed. In particular, the following areas were addressed:

-Exchange of doctoral students, academic and research staff between universities;

-Cooperation in the recognition of academic qualifications;

-Development of joint doctoral programs in both the humanities and science & technology fields;

-Promotion of Hellenic Studies and the Greek language, including opportunities to expand Armenian Studies in Greece and to support Greek Studies programs in Armenia (particularly in teaching Ancient Greek).

The two sides agreed to maintain regular contact to consistently implement the agreements reached between the Ministries of Education of Armenia and Greece.
