Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan Meets Greece’s Deputy Minister of Interior in Thessaloniki

11 February, 2026

During a working visit to Thessaloniki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, visited the administrative center of the Macedonia and Thrace region and met with the official responsible for the regions, Greece’s Deputy Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Gkioulekas.

During the meeting, Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized the need to further intensify decentralized cooperation between Armenia and Greece, taking into account the high level of political relations between the two countries. In this context, the parties discussed the prospect of organizing a visit to Armenia by a delegation composed of representatives of various economic sectors from the regions of Macedonia and Thrace, which would provide an opportunity to explore cooperation potential on the ground.

Konstantinos Gkioulekas noted that similar visits to several neighboring countries of Greece are planned in the near future, and that the possibility of a visit to Armenia could be considered at a later stage.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented the latest developments in Armenia’s foreign policy, the current dynamics of Armenia–Greece relations, and the upcoming high-level contacts.

The meeting was attended by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Thessaloniki, Akis Dagazian, and the Director of the International Relations Service of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macedonia and Thrace region, Katerina Tsapikidou, with whom Ambassador Mkrtchyan also held a separate meeting.
