Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan held a meeting with Professor Sofia Papaioannou, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and International Cooperation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed ways to further develop Armenian-Greek cooperation in the fields of education and academic research. Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized the importance of renewing the Memorandum of Understanding between Yerevan State University and the University of Athens. He also presented the progress in implementing the agreements reached during the visit of Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, to Greece.

The interlocutors also discussed issues related to the teaching of Armenian at the University of Athens, as well as the teaching of Modern and Ancient Greek in Armenia, and expressed their mutual readiness to continue cooperation in the fields of education and science.

Professor Papaioannou reaffirmed the University of Athens’ readiness to renew the Memorandum of Understanding with Yerevan State University and to support the implementation of joint academic initiatives.
