Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan Participates in High-Level Event on the Protection of Children’s Rights in Thessaloniki

A high-level event dedicated to the protection of children’s rights was held at the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki at the initiative of the UNICEF Office in Greece. The event brought together ambassadors from a number of countries, representatives of international organizations, and experts in the field.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan participated in the event, chaired one of the panel discussions, and delivered remarks.

In his speech, Ambassador Mkrtchyan addressed the reforms implemented by Armenia in the field of children’s rights protection, highlighting the importance of the new Law on the Rights of the Child and the Child Protection System, adopted in 2025, as well as programs implemented in the areas of education, healthcare, and social protection.

The Ambassador highly valued the effective cooperation established between Armenia and UNICEF, emphasizing the organization’s significant contribution to the protection of children’s rights and the development of inclusive education, healthcare, and social support systems.

Particular attention was also paid to the protection of children in the digital environment, online safety, and the need for international cooperation to safeguard children’s rights amid disinformation and other contemporary challenges.

The Ambassador also highlighted programs, activities, and initiatives aimed at protecting children’s rights in Armenian schools and higher education institutions. He noted that, at the initiative of Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the 2025–2026 academic year was proclaimed the “Year of a Safe and Secure Educational Environment” in the general education system.

Participants exchanged views on the existing challenges in the field of children’s rights protection, best practices, and prospects for multilateral cooperation.
