Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan Discusses Expanding Cooperation Between Armenian and Greek Cities During Visit to Evros

09 June, 2026

As part of his working visit to the Evros region, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan held meetings with Romilos Hadjianoglou and Adamantos Papadopoulos, Mayors of Didymoteicho and Orestiada, respectively.

The meetings focused on opportunities to develop decentralized cooperation between Armenia and Greece, particularly by strengthening ties between border regions and cities. Ambassador Mkrtchyan presented the Armenian Government’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative and the TRIPP project, emphasizing the potential role of the Evros region in enhancing regional connectivity and developing trade and economic ties.

The interlocutors highlighted the contribution of the Armenian community to the history of Didymoteicho and Orestiada and discussed prospects for establishing cooperation with cities in one of Armenia’s regions, as well as implementing joint cultural and educational programs.

As part of his visit, accompanied by Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Thessaloniki Akis Dangazian, Ambassador Mkrtchyan also met with representatives of the Armenian community of Orestiada. He presented Armenia’s foreign policy priorities, regional developments, and the ongoing processes aimed at normalizing relations with neighboring countries.

The Ambassador also visited the historically significant Armenian Church of Saint George in Didymoteicho.
